Selected by the Oakland Athletics in the first round (No. 9 overall) of the 2018 MLB Draft out of the University of Oklahoma... signed with the A's for $4.6 million, including a $1.5 million signing bonus... won the Heisman Trophy and was named the AP Player of the Year as quarterback for OU's football team in 2018... announced on Feb. 11, 2019 on Twitter that he was pursuing a football career in the NFL, several days before the start of Spring Training... the A's retained his rights should he decide to return to playing baseball in the future... was ranked as the A's No. 4 prospect entering 2019... hit .296 with 10 homers, 47 RBIs and 10 steals in 51 games for OU in 2018 as a junior outfielder... previously played both baseball and football at Texas A&M before transferring and sitting out the 2016 season... hit .122 in 27 games as a redshirt sophomore in 2017 for OU.
