A late bloomer as a Georgia high schooler, Lackey didn't receive any NCAA Division I offers until his senior year in 2023, and he didn't draw much attention from scouts because he attended few showcase events... in 2026, he was ranked as the No. 3 prospect in MLB's 2026 Draft class as well as the best catching prospect in the 2026 Draft... joined Jason Varitek, Matt Wieters, Joey Bart and Kevin Parada as first-round backstops out of Georgia Tech... was rated as the No. 16 catcher out of the state of Georgia by Perfect Game and was a three-year letterwinner at Collins Hill High School, where he was named a captain his senior season... he was named all-state, all-region and all-county in 2023... was selected to 2023 Georgia Senior All-Star Game... hit .328 in 24 PG games in 2022, recording 21 hits, 14 RBI and just six strikeouts
