Mariners Split Doubleheader, Lose Series

August 2, 2014

The Pulaski Mariners (22-19) split Saturday's doubleheader with the Danville Braves (25-15). Pulaski fell in game one 2-1 and took the finale with a 1-0 shutout.

Luis Pina (1-1, 4.25 ERA) made his first start of the season during the first game. The lefthander lasted only three innings and surrendered both runs on five hits. Both of Danville's runs came in the third inning.

Pulaski scored their lone run in the top of the first inning. Wayne Taylor drove home Estarlyn Morales with a single into left.

Zack Littell (4-4, 5.70 ERA) led the Mariners to victory in the closing game of the series. Littell threw five innings of shutout ball and fanned seven Braves while allowing five hits.

Morales provided the only offense of game two with a solo homerun in the second inning-his fourth homer of the year.

Trey Cochran-Gill (3-0, 0.00 ERA) closed out the game by pitching the final two innings en route to his seventh save.

The Mariners return home to Calfee Park for a two-series home stand. Pulaski plays three games against the Kingsport Mets (20-22) then face the Greeneville Astros (23-20) following a day off.
