Pulaski Defeats Burlington, 6-3

The Pulaski Mariners defeat the Burlington Royals 6-3

Daniel Missaki (2.11 ERA) made his ninth start for the Mariners in the first game of the series against the Burlington Royals. Missaki pitched six and one third innings of ball allowing no runs on four hits, and striking out five.

Daniel Torres hits a line drive into right field in the bottom of the fifth inning for the first Pulaski hit of the game. Torres is followed by a double by Wayne Taylor. Jose Leal hits a two-RBI double giving the Mariners a 2-1 lead over the Royals.

Rafael Fernandez singles in the sixth inning, and Jay Baum hits a double allowing Fernandez to score, giving the Mariners their third run.

In the bottom of the seventh, Wayne Taylor walks and steals with Yordi Calderon at bat. Calderon makes it to first on a bunt up the first base line sending Taylor to third. A sacrifice fly by Leal brings Taylor home for the fourth Mariner run of the game. Taylor Zeutenhorst triples on a bomb to the leftfield wall scoring Calderon from second. Zeutenhorst comes home on a hit by Tom Verdi bringing Pulaski to a 6-0 lead.

A bases clearing double by Burlington's Brandon Dulin in the top of the eighth against Rohn Pierce (3.66 ERA) gives the Royals three runs, but Pulaski remains in the lead with a score of 6-3.

Peter Miller (1.41 ERA) finishes the game out for the Mariners allowing no hits, walking one, and striking out two in the final inning of the game, letting Pulaski keep their 6-3 lead over the Royals.

The same two teams will play again tomorrow for the second game of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 7pm at Historic Calfee Park.
