June 9, 2015

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Four Rainiers batters notched multiple hits in a 7-3 Tacoma victory over the Sacramento River Cats on Monday night at Raley Field.

Starting pitcher Sam Gaviglio tossed his third consecutive quality start with 6.0 innings of work, while allowing two runs on six hits with eight strikeouts. The effort earned him a team-leading sixth win of the season.

Logan Kensing relieved Gaviglio in the seventh and tossed 2.0 innings of one-run ball, allowing one hit. Logan Bawcom continued his run of effective relief with a perfect ninth inning to seal the victory.

Franklin Gutierrez's 2-for-4 performance extended his hitting streak to 15 games, tying him with Ketel Marte for the longest streak on the club this season.

Jesus Montero drew a two-out walk in the first inning and eventually came around to score on a Stefen Romero infield single to provide the first run of the game and put Tacoma up 1-0 early.

The Rainiers held onto their slim lead until the bottom of the fifth inning, when Jarrett Parker sent out a leadoff home run to knot the game up at 1-1.

Patrick Kivlehan expanded the Rainiers lead to 3-1 with a two-RBI single in the sixth inning that scored Montero from third and Romero from second.

Travis Ishikawa, who sent San Francisco to the 2014 World Series with a walk-off three-run home run in game five of the NLCS, smacked a solo home run in the bottom half of the sixth to pull Sacramento within one run at 3-2.

Gutierrez and Romero both singled to set up a three-run home run from John Hicks in the Rainiers eighth that gave the visiting Rainiers a 6-2 lead - it was Hicks' third home run of the season.

A Juan Perez groundout in the eighth and a River Cats fielding error in the top of the ninth would net a run for each club and produce the final score of 7-3.

Tacoma and Sacramento wrap up their four-game set tomorrow, June 9. The Rainiers will call on the services of right-hander Forrest Snow (3-4, 2.66), while the River Cats will turn to righty Clayton Blackburn (2-3, 4.50). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
