Rainiers Return Home to Face El Paso in Five-Game Series Opener

The Tacoma Rainiers (34-38) return to Cheney Stadium for a five-game homestand against the El Paso Chihuahuas (43-27) on Thursday. First pitch is at 7:05 PM PDT as Tacoma's right-hander Tyler Cloyd (1-5, 5.40) faces El Paso's right-hander Robert Stock (3-0, 3.63).

Shed Long went 1-for-3 with a home run as the Rainiers claimed victory over Round Rock on Tuesday, 3-1. Robert Perez legged out Tacoma's first inside-the-park home run this season and Sean Nolin secured the win with five innings of one-run ball in his first start with the Rainiers. Darin Gillies retired all six batters that he faced and Matt Carasiti locked up his third save wtih a 1-2-3 ninth frame to close the game.

Since 1960, Cheney Stadium has stood proudly as an anchoring crown jewel in the heart of Central Tacoma. In 2010, the stadium fondly regarded as "R House" underwent a massive transformation to compete as a state-of-the-art entertainment venue in the modern era of professional sports. Once merely the grounds for the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers baseball team, Cheney Stadium is now also home to a pair of professional soccer clubs: Reign FC of the National Women's Soccer League and Tacoma Defiance, the highest-level USL squad for Seattle Sounders FC.
