Montgomery, AL - The Tennessee Smokies (4-3) recorded their most single-game runs of the season, in an 11-5 win over the Montgomery Biscuits (4-3) on Friday night.

Tennessee struck first on a Jordan Nwogu solo home run, in the second inning. Montgomery evened up the score in the bottom half of the inning, on an Alika Williams RBI double. After the Smokies went down in order in the top of the third, the Biscuits scored three runs in the bottom half of the inning, on a pair of home runs. Herbierto Hernandez hit a two-run homer, his second of the series, and Blake Hunt hit a solo shot. Diego Infante singled, following Hunt’s home run, and that would do it for Tennessee starting pitcher Jordan Wicks. In a no decision, Wicks finished with 2 ⅔ innings pitched, allowing five hits, three walks, four (earned) runs and struck out seven batters. Hunter Bigge entered the game in relief, and finished the inning strong, but the Biscuits still led, 4-1.

Following a scoreless fourth inning, the Smokies scored five unanswered runs in the fifth, all with two outs. Pete Crow-Armstrong hit an RBI double and Bryce Ball hit a first-pitch grand slam, to put the Smokies ahead, 6-4. Still a 6-4 game, prior to the start of the bottom of the sixth Michael McAvene replaced Bigge. Bigge (W, 2-0), picked up his second win of the season. In 2 ⅓ innings pitched, he allowed no runs on two hits, one walk and struck out three batters.

In the sixth inning, the Biscuits cut the Tennessee lead in half on an Alexander Ovalles bases loaded RBI walk, to bring them to within one run. That would be it for Montgomery’s scoring. The Smokies scored another five unanswered to finish the game. They scored two in the seventh, two in the eighth and one in the ninth.

Nelson Maldonado and Owen Caissie hit back-to-back RBI singles in the seventh. Crow-Armstrong’s RBI triple and Chase Strumpf’s two-run double gave the Smokies a 10-5 lead, in the eighth. The final run of the game came on a ninth inningBJ Murray RBI single, and Smokies reliever Riley Martin struck out three Biscuits batters to end the game, securing an 11-5 Smokies victory.

The Smokies will play game five of a six-game series against the Montgomery Biscuits, Friday night at Montgomery Riverwalk Stadium. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. ET. The Smokies will send RHP Ben Brown (0-0, 0.00 ERA) to face the Blue Wahoos’ RHP Cole Wilcox(0-0, 2.25 ERA).
