The Tri-City Dust Devils (1-3 Second Half, 30-37) grabbed an early lead Tuesday night, but the Hillsboro Hops (2-2 Second Half, 31-37) scored seven runs in their final three at-bats for an 8-4 win at Gesa Stadium.

The Dust Devils offense made its major push in the 3rd inning, scoring four runs on four hits and sending ten batters to the plate. Edwin Yon led off with a single, and Straton Podaras followed with a double. Jordyn Adams and D’Shawn Knowles then struck back-to-back RBI singles, giving Tri-City a 2-1 lead.

Later in the inning, Gabe Matthews reached on an error, which scored Adams. Osmy Gregorio brought Knowles home via sacrifice fly, and the Dust Devils led 4-1 through three innings.

Yon had another strong night at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a double.

On the mound, Nick Mondak worked around a 1st inning solo home run by Hillsboro’s A.J. Vukovich to go deep into the game. The lefty went 6.1 innings in his longest start of 2022, giving up three runs on five hits and striking out seven with no walks.

Glenn Albanese (0-1) took over for Mondak, inheriting a 4-3 lead and holding it in the 7th. The Hops offense, though, ramped up the scoring late, taking the lead when the Hops’ Caleb Roberts doubled in two in the 8th inning for a 5-4 Hillsboro lead.

The Hops added three runs in the 9th inning for the final margin, with reliever Gerald Ogando (1-1) getting the win.
