Two of the newest Tri-City Dust Devils (13-24 2H, 42-58) combined to throw six shutout innings in their home debuts, helping the Dust Devils take a 4-0 win over the Everett AquaSox (17-20 2H, 48-54) Tuesday night at Gesa Stadium.

2022 6th round draft pick Victor Mederos got the start in his pro debut, going two innings and retiring the first five batters he faced. The Oklahoma State alum struck out one and walked one.

Righty John Swanda (1-0) followed Mederos and threw four innings, giving up only two hits while striking out six. The Des Moines, Iowa native only allowed one runner to get into scoring position, stranding him via a strikeout to end the 5th inning.

The top of the order got things going offensively for Tri-City. D’Shawn Knowles led off the bottom of the 1st with a triple into the right field gap, scoring on an Osmy Gregorio on a sacrifice fly for a 1-0 lead.

The Dust Devils added two in the 3rd inning. Knowles singled to lead off the inning, and then came home on an RBI triple by Kyren Paris to make it 2-0 Tri-City. Gabe Matthews then sent a sac fly deep enough to center field to push the lead to 3-0.

The pitching staff continued its strong night, with Dylan King throwing two scoreless to get to the 9th inning. The Dust Devils scored a run on a double play in the 8th for the 4-0 final margin.

Everett’s Logan Rinehart (0-1) got a tough-luck loss, giving up three runs in six innings of work for a quality start.

Glenn Albanese pitched the 9th inning to complete the shutout. Over the night, Tri-City pitchers struck out ten and walked only one in the shutout win, which ended a five-game losing streak.

The Dust Devils and AquaSox meet up for game two of their six-game series at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday night at Gesa Stadium. A pair of righties get the start, with Jake Smith (1-4, 3.36 ERA) going for Tri-City and Jimmy Joyce (4-10, 6.01 ERA) for Everett.

We’re celebrating Dusty’s Birthday at the ballpark, with help from our friends at Dutch Bros. Kids are invited to have a slice of cake with Dusty to mark the occasion.

The game broadcast begins with the King Beverage Budweiser Pregame Show at 6:50 p.m. at dustdevilsbaseball.com and the MiLB First Pitch app.
