The Tulsa Drillers and their owners, Dale and Jeff Hubbard, have been named winners of the 2017 Crystal Star Awards, Family Owned Business of the Year. The Crystal Star Awards are used annually to honor small businesses and are presented by the Tulsa Small Business Connection, a division of the Tulsa Regional Chamber.
The Hubbard Family has owned Tulsa' Professional Baseball Franchise since December 1986 when Went Hubbard, Dale and Jeff's father, purchased the Drillers from the Texas Rangers. Went began operation of the club during the 1987 season.
Dale and Jeff became involved in the day-to-day operation of the team prior to the 2011 season and have operated the franchise since, keeping the Hubbard family involved with the Drillers for over 31 years.
Professional baseball in Tulsa pre-dates Oklahoma statehood, first being played in 1905.
The Drillers provide affordable, family entertainment each summer, drawing over 360,000 fans to downtown Tulsa over each of the last eight seasons. The team has also been a key summertime employer, providing over 300 part-time jobs each season. The ballpark has been a first-job for many teens through the years.
"We are honored to receive this award from the Tulsa Small Business Connection," said Dale Hubbard. "There are so many great, small businesses in Tulsa, and the award means a great deal to our team. We want to say thank you to all of our partners and fans who made this honor possible."
"We are so happy and proud to be a part of the Tulsa community, and we look forward to many more years as Tulsa's professional baseball team," added Jeff Hubbard.
