Drillers Announce Home Run Derby Plans
The Home Run Derby will not only feature six Texas League All-Star sluggers, but also four local high school hitters. A TL Champion and a High School Champion will both be crowned by First Fidelity during the pre-game event.
The four high school participants will be determined during a series of four qualifying events that will take place prior to select Drillers games during the months of April and May. At each qualifier, four area high school players will be competing for their chance to participate in the First Fidelity Bank Home Run Derby on June 28. Dates for the high school qualifying events will be:
The format for both the qualifying and championship derbies will feature the high school athletes in a four person, two-round competition. The two best sluggers in the preliminary rounds will advance to the finals to determine that night's winner.
The high school athletes will have 10 outs in the first round and five outs in the final round. The winners of each qualifying event will earn the chance to represent their high school in the Home Run Derby finals on June 28.
"The U.S. Cellular Texas League All-Star Game promises to be the highlight of the 2012 season at ONEOK Field, and the First Fidelity Home Run Derby will be a great way to open the evening," said Drillers General Manager Mike Melega.
"Oklahoma is known for its great brand of High School Baseball, and it will be fun to be able to watch some of the area's best hitters compete for a spot in the finals during our four preliminary rounds. Our fans will enjoy the opportunity to watch these young players prior to Drillers games."
Tickets for the U.S. Cellular Texas League All-Star Game are currently on sale at the ONEOK Field Ticket Office and at TulsaDrillers.com. Ticket prices start at $6.00 each.
