The Lynchburg Hillcats pulled out game one of the series against the Delmarva Shorebirds by a score of 7-2.

Angel Genao and Christian Knapczyk each picked up three hits in the victory. Steven Perez picked up his first win of the season after throwing two innings of relief.

Lynchburg would strike first in the second inning after four balls that never left the infield resulted in an RBI single for Tommy Hawke to put Lynchburg up 1-0. Delmarva would score two in the fifth innint to take the lead.

They would not hold onto the lead for long as Hawke would once again drive home a run, this time with a sacrifice fly to center field.

It was the seventh inning where the Hillcats would piece things together. Five extra base hits in the inning would help them put five runs on the board. Triples from Esteban Gonzalez and Knapczyk would each score a run, along with a double from Genao that plated two. The Hillcats would also tack on a run from a wild pitch, exiting the inning with a five-run advantage.

Perez and Wardquelin Vasquez would shut the door the final few frames to move Lynchburg four games out of the top spot in the Carolina League North.

Lynchburg and Delmarva will square off for a doubleheader on Thursday with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m. and the second game following shortly after. Tickets are available at Lynchburg-hillcats.com.
