June 12, 2013

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (JUNE 12, 2013) - Dash right-hander Chris Bassitt has been selected to the Carolina League All-Star Team, the league announced Tuesday. The righty replaces Salem's Henry Owens in the Midsummer Classic, which will take place in San Jose, Calif., on Tuesday at 10:35 p.m. EST.

This season, the Curtice, Ohio, native owns a 6-2 record and sports a 3.54 ERA, which places him 12th in the league among qualified pitchers. His six wins has him tied with teammate and fellow All-Star righty Chris Beck for the team lead, and this mark is tied for second on the circuit. Bassitt also paces the Dash with 68 strikeouts.

This is the first All-Star selection for the former Akron Zip in his minor league career, and he celebrated the honor with a victory Tuesday night over Lynchburg. Bassitt gave up just one run in six and a third innings while striking out eight, one shy of his career-high. The right-hander is scheduled to make his final start of the first half on Sunday at Wilmington.

Bassitt will join Beck, shortstop Chris Curley and third baseman Jeremy Farrell as Winston-Salem representatives in the All-Star Game. The Dash are one player shy of Myrtle Beach for the most representatives from the CL in the Midsummer Classic.

Winston-Salem enters play Wednesday in the thick of the playoff hunt. The Dash are one game back of the Pelicans for first place in the Southern Division standings. Winston has five games remaining in the first half, while Myrtle still has six contests to play.
