Tony Thompson Named California League Player of the Week

STOCKTON, Calif.-After an impressive nine RBI game, Ports infielder Tony Thompson has been named the California League Player of the week for the week of August 12-18.

On August 16, Tony Thompson knocked in a career high nine RBI as the Ports thumped the Visalia Rawhide 14-6. Thompson was 4-for-5 with two home runs, a two-run shot in the third and a grand slam in the seventh to lead the Ports. The very next day, Thompson would smack his 17th home run on the season and finish the game with four RBI. Thompson would end the week with a .429 batting average, three home runs and 15 RBI.

Thompson currently ranks second in the California League with 87 RBI.

Thompson was drafted by the Athletics in the sixth round of the 2010 draft out of the University of Kansas.
