Addison Russell Collects California League Post Season Awards

Ports Shortstop selected as the Rookie of the Year & to the Post Season All-Star Team

STOCKTON, Calif. - Shortstop Addison Russell has been named the California League's Rookie of the Year and to the California League Post Season All-Star team.

Russell was the A's first-round draft pick (11th overall) in the 2012 draft out of Pace, Florida high school and currently ranks as the Athletics top prospect. The 19-year old is currently hitting .279 with 17 home runs and 58 driven in over 102 games. After a bit of a slow start, Russell has excelled the second half of the season as he hit .333 in June with 21 runs scored and 15 RBI in 22 games and in July he hit an astonishing .344 with a .440 on-base percentage and seven doubles in 16 games. Entering play tonight, Russell leads the team with 10 triples, 54 walks, 83 runs scored and is second on the team with a .279 batting average.

The Ports wrap up the home schedule tonight (8/26) against the Visalia Rawhide. It is $2 Buck Monday, where tickets hot dogs and sodas are only two-dollars.
