Edged in Eighth: Intimidators steal sweep

KAN scores two in eighth to oust WV 2-1

(Charleston, WV- April 23, 2014)-  The West Virginia Power fell on Wednesday night at Appalachian Power Park to the Kannapolis Intimidators, 2-1. The Power led until the eighth inning when the Intimidators struck for two runs and claimed a series sweep. 

The Power got on the board first with a run in the second when Edwin Espinal plated JaCoby Jones on an RBI groundout. West Virginia would not score again, however, grounding into three double plays in the game.

The Intimidators were held scoreless through seven innings, despite putting a runner in scoring position in four frames. Kannapolis would get on the board in the eighth with two runs when Jacob Morris brought in one with an RBI single and Tyler Williams walked in the go-ahead tally.

Power starter Buddy Borden threw four scoreless innings, allowing one hit with five strikeouts in a no decision. Felipe Gonzalez (0-1) was charged with the loss while Intimidators relief pitcher Jordan Guerrero (1-0) earned the win. Jose Bautista (1) picked up the save. Erich Weiss extended his 17-game on base streak with a 1-for-2 performance including a pair of walks.
