Power drop game one 2-1 but win game two 6-0 Wednesday

(Kannapolis, NC- April 30, 2014)-  On Wednesday, the West Virginia Power and Kannapolis Intimidators split their second doubleheader in two days with the Intimidators taking game one 2-1 and the Power winning game two 6-0. Edwin Espinal paced the offense with five hits over seven at bats combined between the two games, driving in two and scoring twice.

In game one, Kannapolis took a 1-0 lead on West Virginia starter Cody Dickson in the first on when Danny Hayes drove in Adam Engel with a sacrifice fly. The Intimidators added a run to the lead in the third when Hayes singled in Engel after a one out double.

West Virginia's lone run crossed in the sixth when Espinal singled in JaCoby Jones. The Power had the tying run at third and the go ahead run on at first when Kannapolis turned an inning-ending double play.

Dickson (2-3) took the loss after allowing the two runs on five hits while walking three and striking out three. Robinson Leyer (2-2) notched the win holding West Virginia to one run on seven hits over five and a third before Matt Abramson worked the final five outs for his second save.

The Power jumped to a three run lead in game two. In the first, West Virginia collected five straight hits, including a run-scoring double by Espinal and singles by Danny Collins and Wyatt Mathisen. West Virginia added runs in the second, sixth and seventh innings to build a 6-0 lead.

Henry Hirsch made a spot start in the second game and pitched four shutout innings, striking out three and walking one while only allowing three hits. Jerry Mulderig (2-1) earned the win with three scoreless innings of relief to help complete West Virginia's second shutout of the season. Andre Wheeler (0-2) surrendered the first four runs over three innings and took the loss for Kannapolis.

The Power and Intimidators conclude this five game, three day series on Thursday at 7:05 pm before West Virginia travels to Greensboro for a wrap-around weekend set. The Power begin a three game homestand on May 7 against Savannah. For tickets or more information, call 304-344-2287.
