Walk-off homer tops Toledo over Buffalo

Liam Hendriks great pitching is ruined by a Tyler Collins' walk-off
June 15, 2014

Tyler Collins' two-run walk-off home run put a dagger in the hearts of the Buffalo Bisons, as the Toledo Mud Hens take down the Herd by the score of 3-1 in the bottom of the eleventh at Fifth Third Field in Toledo.

In a contest that had great pitching by both teams' starters, Collins' homer proved to be the difference in Sunday's final clash between the two teams for the 2014 season.

Ryan Tepera relieved Bobby Korecky after Korecky pitched a scoreless ninth and tenth prior to the final inning. With a man on first and two outs, Collins took a 1-0 fastball over the heart of the plate that he crushed over the right field wall to send the Toledo fans home happy.

The Herd is just 6-18 in Toledo in their last 24 games. With the loss, Buffalo drops the season series to the Mud Hens with a record of 3-5 against the ball club.

The walk off homer overshadowed Liam Hendriks stellar pitching performance. The righty surrendered just six hits through his eight innings of work. Hendriks pitched six shutout innings before allowing the tying run in the seventh. In his season high 107 pitches, Hendriks was able to fan nine Mud Hen batters.

Mud Hens hurler Kyle Lobstein also threw a game that frustrated Bison batters. Lobstein only gave up five hits in six innings of work, surrendered one run and struck out five.

Buffalo struck first early in the game. A.J. Jimenez's lead off double in the second set up Andy LaRoche to do some damage. LaRoche got a hold of an inside pitch that just snuck past Toledo shortstop Hernan Perez. The single by LaRoche plated Jimenez from second to give Buffalo the 1-0 lead.

The Mud Hens were able to even the score in the seventh. A lead off double followed by a ground out set up a threatening Wade Gaynor at third. A sacrifice fly off of Jordan Lennerton's bat was able to score Gaynor to rid Buffalo's lead and even the score at one.

The Herd takes its road trip to Columbus to start a four game series with the Columbus Clippers Monday with first pitch at 7:05pm.

Bisons Notes:
Blue Jays outfielder Colby Rasmus went 1-5 in his fourth rehab start with Buffalo. Andy LaRoche finished the going 2-4 with an RBI. Kevin Pillar aslo kept his hitting ways by going 2-5. Pillar has now hit three straight multi-hit games. Pillar has 17 doubles on the season, which is tied for the fifth most in the international league. A.J Jimenez has moves his hitting streak to ten games after Sunday's series finale.
