Back-to-Back: Power double up 'Claws

WV beats Lakewood 4-2 for second straight victory

(Lakewood Township, NJ- June 20, 2014)-  The West Virginia Power doubled up the Lakewood BlueClaws 4-2 on Friday evening at FirstEnergy Park. The Power staked starter Cody Dickson to an early advantage as the club its second straight game to open the second half of the season.

In the second, West Virginia capitalized on an error to build a 3-0 lead. Edwin Espinal singled off Jon Prosinski to lead off the inning and moved to third when Erich Weiss reached on a fielder's choice and an error. JaCoby Jones drove in Espinal with a sacrifice fly and Wyatt Mathisen doubled in Weiss for a 2-0 lead. With two outs, a Candon Myles single brought home Mathisen to extend the advantage.

The Power added a run in the fifth on an Espinal single that brought in Harold Ramirez, who singled with one out to extend his hitting streak to 12 games. Lakewood scored once in the fifth and added a run in the eighth to close the scoring.

Dickson (3-8) worked six innings for West Virginia, allowing just one run on six hits while striking out three. Felipe Gonzalez allowed one hit in two innings of relief and Brett McKinney earned his third save by pitching a scoreless ninth. Prosinski (2-1) took the loss after allowing all four runs, though only was earned because of an error.

West Virginia has won two straight games for the sixth time this season and will try for its first three-game winning streak of the year on Saturday. The Power and BlueClaws meet for game three of this of this four-game set at 7:05 pm. Luis Heredia will start for West Virginia and will be opposed by Lakewood's Yacksel Rios at FirstEnergy Park.
