Downed in Delmarva: WV lose 5-1

Power dropped in series opener with Shorebirds
June 23, 2014

(Salisbury, MD- June 23, 2014)-  The West Virginia Power lost 5-1 to the Delmarva Shorebirds on Monday evening at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. The Shorebirds scored twice early and three times late to take game one of this four-game set from the Power.

Delmarva took a 2-0 lead against West Virginia starter Dovydas Neverauskas in the bottom of the first on three straight hits, keyed by a single from Chance Sisco. The Power halved the deficit against the Shorebirds' Hunter Harvey in the top of the second when Erich Weiss scored on a Chris Diaz single.

Neverauskas retired 11 straight between the first and fifth inning before the Shorebirds added any run support. In the fifth, Jeff Kemp drove in Jared Breen with a single for a 3-1 edge. The 'Birds added two more runs against Felipe Gonzalez to close the scoring.

Neverauskas (3-6) took the loss while Harvey (4-4) earned the win. Dylan Rheault worked the final three innings for his third save. Five different Power players collected base hits in the loss, including a third inning single by Harold Ramirez to extend his hitting streak to 15 consecutive games.

West Virginia and Delmarva continue this series on Tuesday at 7:05 pm with the Power's Buddy Borden facing Luc Rennie at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
