Birds Silenced: Power shutout Delmarva

Buddy Borden leads way in 5-0 WV win

(Salisbury, MD- July 7, 2014)-  The West Virginia Power blanked the Delmarva Shorebirds on Monday evening at Perdue Stadium 5-0. The Power pushed five across in the sixth to pull away with the win in the series opener.

After five scoreless innings and a pitcher's duel between Buddy Borden and Mitch Horacek, West Virginia finally got on the scoreboard in the sixth. Elvis Escobar got things started with an RBI single that plated both Chris and Francisco Diaz. JaCoby Jones followed that up with an RBI single of his own to make it 3-0 Power.

With two outs and two on, Danny Collins came through to put the game out of reach with a bloop two-run single to put the game out of reach.

Buddy Borden (4-6) earned the win with five scoreless innings, striking out four. Mitch Horacek (4-8) was charged with the loss. JaCoby Jones, the reigning South Atlantic League Player of the Week, extended his hit streak to nine games with a two hit performance.

West Virginia visits the Delmarva Shorebirds on Tuesday, July 8, at Perdue Stadium. Dovydas Neverauskas will start against the Shorebirds Steven Brault.
