Two Much: Legends quiet Power 2-1

LEX scores twice in sixth and holds WV to two hits as Power fall
August 14, 2014

(Lexington, KY- August 14, 2014)-  The West Virginia Power were tripped 2-1 by Lexington Legends at Whitaker Bank Ballpark on Thursday. JaCoby Jones and Erich Weiss managed the only Power hits of the game against three Legends pitchers in the series opener.

Jones staked West Virginia to a 1-0 lead two batters in to the game. Jones hit a 3-1 offering from Lexington starter Cody Reed over the left-center field wall; the shortstop's 21st of the season, putting him three shy of matching the franchise record.

Power starting pitcher Buddy Borden made the advantage stand over five scoreless innings, striking out eight and walking two. The league's reigning Pitcher-of-the-Week did not, however, receive any further run support after the first inning.

In the bottom of the sixth, Lexington's Dom Taylor singled and moved to third on a base hit. Frank Schwindel doubled in both Taylor and Kenny Diekroeger for a 2-1 lead off West Virginia reliever Isaac Sanchez (3-4).

Reed worked three innings before passing the ball to Jake Junis and the bullpen. Junis (9-7) pitched five scoreless innings of his own and retired the final 12 batters he faced. Tim Hill pitched a perfect ninth for his fifth save.

West Virginia and Lexington continue this four game series on Friday evening at 7:05 pm. Dovydas Neverauskas is slated to take the bump for the Power against the Legends Luke Farrell.
