Rally Tally: Power Victorious Again

West Virginia score two in fifth and defeat Sand Gnats 3-1

(Charleston, WV- April 10, 2015)- West Virginia used another rally to down the Savannah Sand Gnats 3-1 on Friday night at Appalachian Power Park. Trailing 1-0 in the fifth, Jerrick Suiter provided the key at bat with an RBI triple in the fifth and scored a few pitches later on Tyler Filliben single.

Savannah struck first in the third off Power starter Alex McRae. The right hander issued a two-out walk to Jonathan Johnson who stole second and scored on an RBI single by John Mora.

In the fifth, the Power tied the game and took the lead. Chase Simpson drew a leadoff walk then scored on Suiter's triple to tie the game at one. Suiter then strolled home on the base knock by Filliben.

Pablo Reyes collected his first hit of the season to provide West Virginia insurance in the eighth. The 21-year-old clocked a one-out solo homer to the opposite field in right to make the score 3-1.

West Virginia starting pitcher Alex McRae (1-0) made a solid debut with the Power with five innings of one-run ball. The right hander surrendered just two hits while walking three. Savannah southpaw Brad Wieck (0-1) suffered the loss. Yeudy Garcia picked up the save by hurling two innings of shutout baseball.

The Power and Sand Gnats will play game three of the four game series on Saturday afternoon with RHP Dovydas Neverauskas (No Record) taking the bump against Savannah RHP Casey Meisner. First pitch is slated for 2:05 p.m.

Sunday's game features is BrewFest CharlieWest at Appalachian Power Park with a postgame craft beer festival featuring eight craft breweries and Proud Eagle products. Also The Company Stores will be performing live music during the BrewFest. Gates open at 1:00 p.m. while pregame on the Power radio network begins at 1:45 p.m.
