Say what?: Power no-hit Suns and lose

(Charleston, WV- April 15, 2015) - West Virginia threw its first no-hitter since the 2009 but lost to the Hagerstown Suns 1-0 on Wednesday morning at Appalachian Power Park. The Power were also trailing in game two 1-0 before the game was suspended in the bottom of the second with one out.

Game one will forever live as one of the oddest games in Power history. Power starter Jake Burnette walked two and hit a batter before leaving the game with two outs in the first. Jose Regalado entered and walked the first batter he faced and it gave the Suns their lone run of the game.

From that point on, Regalado was excellent, retiring the next 16 batters he faced in order. All told, Regalado hurled 5.1 hitless innings with four strikeouts in his South Atlantic League debut. Eric Dorsch appeared in the seventh and worked a perfect frame.

The offense struggled in the game in limited opportunities. West Virginia tallied a hit in every inning from the second to the fifth but failed to drive home a run and the Power finished 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position.

Burnette (0-1) suffered the loss while Hagerstown right hander Austen Williams (1-1) picked up the victory. R.C. Orton earned his first save of the season.

The no-hitter for the Power was the second one in franchise history and the first since Hunter Strickland and Diego Moreno combined to no-hit the Charleston Riverdogs on July 27, 2009.

Game two saw the Suns again strike in the first inning, this time scoring a run with the benefit of a hit. Chase Simpson led off the second with a bunt single and Trace Tam Sing had a 3-1 count against him before the game was suspended.

The Power finished the homestand with a 4-2 record and will embark on a seven-day road trip beginning with four games in Lexington and three in Kannapolis. Thursday night's game in Lexington begins at 7:05 p.m. with Alex McRae (1-0, 1.80) taking the hill against Legends starter Emilio Ogando (0-0, 0.00). Pregame on the Power radio network is slated for 6:45 p.m.

The Power will return after the seven-game road trip to wrap up the month of April with four games against the Lexington Legends before they embark on the road again. When West Virginia returns home on Thursday, April 23, fans can take in a Thirsty Thursday presented by 96.1 The Wolf with $1 12 oz. drafts and $2 16 oz. cans of beer through the end of the seventh.
