Spoiler Alert: Power take series opener

WV wins Lexington's home debut 4-2

(Lexington, KY- April 16, 2015)- The West Virginia Power beat the Lexington Legends 4-2 Thursday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. Chase Simpson's solo home run in the eighth tied the game at two and Pablo Reyes tripled in the eventual winning run.

West Virginia tallied the game's first run in the top of the second. With the bases loaded, Elvis Escobar reached on an infield single that plated Michael Suchy from third base for a 1-0 lead. In the home half of the fourth, the Legends evened the score on a run-scoring single by Brandon Downes.

Corey Toups' leadoff home run in the bottom of the fifth gave Lexington the lead. Toups drove a 2-1 pitch over the left field wall off Power starter Alex McRae and spotted the Legends to a 2-1 advantage.

In the eighth after Legends starter Emilio Ogando and reliever Nik Stephenson combined to retire 15 consectutive batters, Simpson drilled a payoff pitch over the right-centerfield wall to tie the game at two. After Cole Tucker walked and moved to scoring position on an errant pick-off throw, Reyes tripled in the eventual winning run for a 3-2 West Virginia edge.

The Power tacked on an insurance run in the ninth with a run-scoring single by Jerrick Suiter to plate Suchy.

McRae worked five innings, striking out five, but did not factor in the decision. Junior Lopez (1-0) was the benefactor of the eighth inning run and earned his first win of the season. Nik Stephenson (0-2) allowed three runs on three hits over four relief innings and took the loss. Sam Street pitched two innings for his first save of the season.

West Virginia and Lexington continue their four game series on Friday evening. Dovydas Neverauskas and Corey ray will start for the Power and Legends, respectively, with a first pitch slated for 7:05 pm.
