Dash, Keys suspended in fifth inning Wednesday

Game will be completed as part of makeshift doubleheader Thursday
May 6, 2015

FREDERICK, Md. (May 6, 2015) - The middle match of Winston-Salem's three-game series at Frederick was suspended due to rain on Wednesday night. The Dash enjoy a 3-2 lead in the middle of the fifth inning.

The Dash and Keys will conclude this contest on Thursday from NYMEO Field at Harry Grove Stadium. The bottom of the fifth will begin at 11 a.m., with the regularly scheduled Thursday contest to follow as a seven-inning game.

Winston-Salem jumped out to a first-inning lead thanks to a pair of walks from Frederick starter Mitch Horacek. With two down and those two runners aboard, Chris Jacobs tripled both men home on a liner to left-center that skidded past a diving Johnny Ruettiger.

Adam Engel pushed the Dash's advantage to three with a leadoff home run in the third. After collecting just four home runs in their first 24 games, the Dash have homered four times in their last 10 offensive innings.

For the first time in 613 days, Jake Cose took to the hill in a Minor League game. Cose, who suffered a back injury during the 2013 offseason and missed all of last season, worked three innings and permitted just one run on two hits. He walked four and whiffed two over 51 pitches.

His lone blemish came in the third inning, with Tucker Nathans scoring on a double steal attempt that ultimately ended the third frame. Frederick followed that up with another tally in the fourth inning against Andre Wheeler. Brenden Webb launched Wheeler's first pitch of the outing down the right field line for his third homer of 2015.

Thus, the Dash and Keys will conclude their first half work against one another with a makeshift doubleheader on Thursday at 11 a.m. Follow all of the action on wsdash.com/broadcast and the TuneIn App.

The Dash return to BB&T Ballpark this Friday for a critical five-game, four-day series with the first-place Myrtle Beach Pelicans (Chicago Cubs). Friday's 7 p.m. series opener precedes a spectacular fireworks show, with a 4:30 p.m. doubleheader to follow on Saturday. The set concludes with a 2 p.m. contest on Sunday and a 11 a.m. showdown on Monday. For tickets, call the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.
