#Strikeouts: Power set team record in win

Colten Brewer & John Sever combined for 18 K's in 4-0 win

(Charleston, WV - June 1, 2015) - The West Virginia Power defeated the Greensboro Grasshoppers 4-0 on Monday night at Appalachian Power Park. Colten Brewer was stellar on the mound for the Power as he struck out a career-best 11 batters as part of a season-best 18 punchouts by the pitching staff. The 18 strikeouts by the pitching staff is also a franchise-record for a nine-inning game.

After Brewer struck out two batters in the first inning, the offense supplied him with a run in the bottom of the frame. Michael Suchy hit an RBI sacrifice fly to score Cole Tucker, who led off the inning by reaching on an error.

Following a clean second inning by Brewer, West Virginia added another run. Chase Simpson hit a solo home run to right to make it 2-0. The home run by Simpson was his fifth to tie him with Pablo Reyes for the team-lead.

The Power added two more in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead. Connor Joe was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and later scored on an RBI double from Suchy to make it 3-0. Suchy later scored the final run of the inning on an infield single by Elvis Escobar.

Brewer (1-2) earned his first career South Atlantic League win thanks to his 11-strikeout performance. The 11 strikeouts from the Texas native surpassed his previous best of four. In relief of Brewer was John Sever who tossed three innings and struck out seven 'Hoppers. Jorgan Cavanerio (0-2) suffered the loss.

West Virginia (31-20) continues it's three game set with Greensboro (21-30) on Tuesday night. The Power will send RHP Austin Coley (6-3, 3.51) to the mound against LHP Ben Holmes (0-3, 4.28). First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. while pregame on the Power radio network is scheduled for 6:45 p.m.

Tuesday's game is the first Pets in the Park of the 2015 season. Fans can bring all their ballpark-friendly companions to Appalachian Power Park. All pets must be on a leash. Tuesday's game is also another Tailgate Tuesday presented by Tailgate 107.3 with happy hour specials from 6 p.m. to first pitch.
