2 Little 2 Late: Power Drop Fourth Straight

Late rally falls short again in 5-4 loss to Augusta

(Charleston, WV - June 12, 2015) - The West Virginia Power lost to the Augusta GreenJackets 5-4 on Friday night at Appalachian Power Park. The loss for West Virginia was the fourth in a row which is the longest of the season.

Colten Brewer started his outing off slow by surrendering a run in the first inning and three more in the third. The 22-year-old surrendered a solo home run to Jeremy Sy in the first to make it 1-0 and in the third gave up a two-run triple to Cristian Paulino, who later scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-0.

The Power chipped away at the GreenJackets lead beginning in the fourth inning. Tito Polo led off the frame with a four-pitch walk and advanced to second on a passed ball, stole third, then scored on an RBI single by Jerrick Suiter.

In the sixth the Power scored twice to make it a one-run game. After reaching on a fielder's choice and advancing to second on a wild pitch, Chase Simpson scored on an RBI single to right by Suiter. The second run came across when Tyler Filliben laced a two-out single to left to plate Suiter.

Augusta stretched their lead to two in the seventh. Skyler Ewing hit a single to left to plate Paulino, who pulled a one-out double.

In the ninth the Power rallied and put the winning run on base. Filliben hit a one-out single then went first-to-third on a Cole Tucker single. With runners on the corners, Elvis Escobar grounded a ball that was mishandled by the GreenJackets first baseman, allowing Filliben to score. However, the rally ended after a flyout to end the game.

Brewer (1-3) suffered the loss after he gave up four runs on four hits over six innings. The 22-year-old surrendered four walks and hit two batters while striking out six. Pat Young (3-0) earned the win with 5.2 innings of three-run ball. Carlos Alvarado earned his eighth save of the season.

West Virginia (34-27) continues its series against Augusta (29-31) on Saturday night and will send RHP Austin Coley (7-4, 3.56) to the mound in the second game. Coley will be opposed by GreenJackets LHP Matt Gage (3-2, 4.38) First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. while pregame on Charleston's ESPN Radio 104.5 FM and 1490, the Power website, and the TuneIn radio app is slated for 6:45 p.m.

Saturday's game is Chuck's Birthday with a headphone giveaway to the first 1,000 fans presented by Renaissance Dental and 98.7 The Beat. That same night will also feature an appearance by the popular ZOOperstars.
