Hutchison falls in defeat as Herd losses, 3-0
With Drew Hutchison on the mound for the Bisons, the Herd's offense collected just two hits in a 3-0 loss to Thruway Cup rival Syracuse, Sunday afternoon at Coca-Cola Field. Buffalo failed to advance a runner to second base in their 17th shutout defeat of the season.
Buffalo is now 12-17 in shutout games this year.
Making his first start since being optioned by the Blue Jays on August 18, Hutchison allowed two runs on three hits over four innings of work. He was greeted rudely by former Bison outfielder Matt den Dekker, who hit a screaming line drive into the Bully Hill Party Deck two batters into the contest.
The other two hits allowed by Hutchison on Sunday came off the bat of Caleb Ramsey, with the right fielder's second inning triple setting up the second Syracuse run. The righty kept the Chiefs off the board in the third and fourth innings with the help of two of the Bisons' season-high four doubleplays in the game.
Hutchison used 71 pitches to get through his four innings, walking three and striking out four. He was also called for a balk in the third inning that didn't cause any damage. The righty threw 43 of his 71 pitches for strikes.
His opponent, Syracuse's, Paolo Espino, tossed a gem in his sixth win of the season. The righty allowed just one hit and worked to only three over the minimum in seven innings of work. Ty Kelly's led off the fourth inning with a single, but he was erased two batters later with a doubleplay.
Buffalo had just five baserunners all game.
The Herd now heads to Lehigh Valley for a three-game series before returning home Thursday for the final homestand of the season.

Toronto has optioned All-Star Matt Hague back to the Bisons…Andrew Albers threw two innings of shutout relief in his first action with the team since July 26…Ryan Tepera and Steve Delabar each threw an inning of shutout relief for Buffalo.
