Four!: Power beat Augusta 4-2

West Virginia lowers magic number to four with road victory

(Charleston, W.V. - August 26, 2015) - The West Virginia Power defeated the Augusta GreenJackets 4-2 in the second game of the series at Lake Olmstead Stadium on Wednesday night. With the victory, the Power lowered its magic number to four after Lakewood defeated Hagerstown. 

West Virginia got off to a fast start against Augusta starter Chris Johnson. In his South Atlantic League debut, Kevin Kramer drew a one-out walk, advanced to third on a fielder's choice and an error, then scored on an RBI single from Michael Suchy

Kevin Newman drove home West Virginia's second run of the night. After Tito Polo hit an infield single with two outs, Newman lined a first pitch double down the line in right to score Polo from first.

The Power added two more runs on just one hit in the seventh. After Taylor Gushue led off the seventh with a double, he reached third on a wild pitch and scored on another wild pitch. The wild pitch also allowed Kramer second and he later scored on the third wild pitch of the inning.

Augusta scored its final run on a solo homer in the bottom of the eighth by Chuckie Jones.

Stephen Tarpley (11-3) earned the win for West Virginia with seven innings of one-run ball. The southpaw surrendered five hits and walked three to earn the victory. Despite a quality start, Johnson (1-4) suffered the loss. Nick Neumann worked a scoreless ninth to earn his single season franchise-best 16th save of the season, passing Nate Kilcrease from the 2012 club. 

In his debut, Kramer went 0-for-3 with two runs scored. The second round pick from the 2015 MLB Draft extended his on-base streak to 17 games after he reached in each of his last 16 games while playing in Morgantown.

West Virginia (41-17, 78-49) continues the four-game series at Augusta (28-29, 61-65) with game three on Thursday night. RHP Yeudy Garcia (12-5, 2.13) will pitch for West Virginia opposite of Augusta LHP Mark Reyes (7-6, 2.27). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. while pregame on Charleston's ESPN Radio 104.5 FM and 1490, the Power website, and the TuneIn Radio App is slated for 6:45 p.m.

West Virginia returns home for the final homestand of the regular season on Saturday, August 29 for a five-game series against the Lexington Legends. The homestand begins with the 1960 Pirates World Series Championship Celebration which includes a Bill Mazeroski bobblehead courtesy of AARP and 58 WCHS and it will be given to the first 1,000 fans through the gates of Appalachian Power Park. After Saturday's game, fans can take in the final fireworks show of the 2015 regular season.
