Wings Rally For Win at Scranton/WB

Polanco homers, Palka reaches base 4 times
July 10, 2016

MOOSIC, PA - The Rochester Red Wings rallied for three runs in the seventh inning to beat the International League-leading Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 3-2 Sunday afternoon at PNC Field.

The Red Wings (52-40) salvaged the final game in the three-game set against Triple-A's best team. Rochester had just two hits against RailRiders (56-35) starter Luis Severino (5-1) before exploding for four hits that led to three runs in the seventh.

The Wings trailed 2-0 entering the inning before Jorge Polanco hit a home run to open the frame, Daniel Palka spoiled the shift with a bloop double to left and Byung Ho Park ripped a line drive at the shortstop that dropped for a sharp infield single sending Palka to third. Palka scored and Park advanced to second a few pitches later on a passed ball and Wilfredo Tovar gave Rochester its first lead at 3-2 with a double that landed right on the chalk down the left field line, though both broadcast teams indicated that the ball appeared foul.

The runs made Andrew Albers (7-3) the pitcher of record after surrendering two runs on seven hits and two walks with six strikeouts in 6.0 innings. Albers kept the Red Wings in the game in the fourth inning after Scranton/WB loaded the bases with no outs. The lefty allowed an RBI single before a lineout and back-to-back strikeouts to escape the threat. The RailRiders used consecutive two-out doubles in the fifth to extend their advantage to 2-0.

Marcus Walden tossed 2.0 perfect innings with a strikeout and Alex Wimmers recorded his eighth save with a perfect ninth for the Wings, who hit the break 52-40. They trail Scranton/WB by 4.5 games for the division lead and trail the Wild Card leading Lehigh Valley IronPigs by a half game at the break.

Palka reached base in all four plate appearances, finishing 2-for-2 with a double, two walks and a run scored.
