Five Times Over: WV takes fifth straight win

Arribas and Hill combine for five RBI in 8-1 victory over 'Dads

(Hickory, NC - July 15, 2016)- The West Virginia Power topped the Hickory Crawdads 8-1 on Friday night at L.P. Frans Stadium. West Virginia's pitching staff allowed its first run in nearly a week and the team reached on 11 hits to win their fifth straight.

The Power entered play Friday having pitched 35 scoreless innings, dating back to the second inning on Sunday, July 10, at Lakewood, including three straight shutouts against the Augusta GreenJackets during a homestand to match the South Atlantic League record.

West Virginia starter Logan Sendelbach pitched two scoreless innings and West Virginia spotted him to a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning. With two down, Casey Hughston singled in John Bormann to give the Power the lead.

In the bottom of the third, Hickory scored once on two hits to snap West Virginia's scoreless inning streak at 37 innings. With two outs, Frandy De La Rosa singled to left to drive in Connor McKay and tie the game at one.

The Power recaptured the lead in the top if the fifth. Daniel Arribas tripled in Alfredo Reyes and Logan Ratledge for a 3-1 West Virginia lead. A sac fly from John Bormann extended the lead in the top of the sixth. 

Arribas doubled in Mitchell Tolman in the seventh and then scored on Logan Hill's third home run of the season; a two-run shot to center that extended the Power edge to six runs at 7-1. West Virginia added an additional run in the top of the eighth on a bases loaded single by Logan Ratledge to close the scoring at 8-1.

Logan Sendelbach (7-3) pitched five innings, allowing one run on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Julio Vivas worked three shutout innings for his third hold this season. Erik Swanson (5-4) took the loss for the Crawdads after allowing the first three runs over five innings.

Eight of the nine West Virginia batters had at least one hit. Arribas, Hill and Ryan Nagle had two hits apiece with Arribas driving in three runs and hill added a pair. The Power pitching staff has allowed two runs over 45 innings during the last five games.

Bret Helton will pitch for the Power on Saturday as they seek their sixth straight win and will be opposed by the Crawdads Jonathan Hernandez. First pitch is slated for 7:00 P.M.
