Power Down: Delmarva shuts out WV 6-0

'Birds send Power to fifth straight loss and clinch four game series

(Charleston, WV - July 30, 2016)- The West Virginia Power lost game three of a four game series to the Delmarva Shorebirds 6-0 Saturday night at Appalachian Power Park. The 'Birds plated three runs in both the fifth and sixth en route to the series-clinching win.

Starters Bret Helton and Brian Gonzalez traded four shutout innings before Delmarva broke the game open in the middle innings. Austin Anderson led off the fifth with a solo home run to get the scoring started. Later in the frame after back-to-back singles, Cedric Mullins knocked an RBI double and Ryan Mountcastle singled in another run to make it 3-0.

The 'Birds plated another three runs in the sixth despite recording just one hit. Delmarva plated the first two runs on a bases loaded walk and hit batter. Drew Turbin hit a sacrifice fly to cap the scoring and give the 'Birds a 6-0 advantage.

All six runs were charged to Helton (6-7), who also allowed six hits across six frames with two strikeouts and four walks. 

Reliever Sean Keselica finished the game for the Power with three scoreless innings, limiting the 'Birds to just two base runners on a pair of hits.

Gonzalez (6-6) and Mike Burke combined to limit the Power to five hits as the Power fell 6-0 and were shutout for the eighth time this season.

Daniel Arribas was the only Power player with multiple hits, finishing 2-3 with a walk.

West Virginia will try to salvage a game in the four game series Sunday afternoon. Gage Hinsz gets the ball for the Power, opposed by 'Bird starter Reid Love. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. at Appalachian Power Park.
