August 30, 2016

The International League today announced that Buffalo Bisons DH Jesus Montero has been named to the league's postseason All-Star Team.

Montero has had a stellar season with the Bisons, with a .321 average that is just .001 behind three other players in the race for the International League's batting championship. Montero also leads the Bisons with 150 hits (2nd in the IL), 36 extra-base hits, 209 total bases (4th in the IL), a .352 on-base pct. and a .447 slugging pct. The slugger also ranks second on the squad with 24 doubles, 11 home runs and 58 RBI.

Montero, a midseason International League as well (1-4 in the Triple-A All-Star Game), has hit .283 or better in all five months of the season and is having his best month in August (.395). He enters play Tuesday with a 19-game on-base streak and has also recorded hit streak of 13 games and 15 games earlier this season.

This is Montero's second recognition on the International League postseason All-Star team, having also earned the honor as a catcher with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in 2010. He is the fifth Bisons player to earn the honor over the last four years, joining DH Mauro Gomez (2013), OF Kevin Pillar (2014), RHP Bobby Korecky (2014) and INF Matt Hague (2015).
