End of the Road: Power drop 4-1 final

WV concludes 2016 road schedule with 31 wins over 70 games

(Columbia, SC - September 1, 2016)- The West Virginia Power lost 4-1 to the Columbia Fireflies on Thursday at Spirit Communications Park. The Power scored first but the Fireflies quickly answered and West Virginia left seven on the bases in the loss.

West Virginia opened the scoring in the top half of the fourth inning. Mitchell Tolman led off the inning with a walk and stole second. Carlos Munoz singled up the middle to drive in Tolman for a 1-0 Power lead. Columbia answered with a pair in the bottom of the fourth to take a 2-1 lead. Eudor Garcia singled in J.C. Rodriguez and Dale Burdick to give the Fireflies the advantage.

Columbia added two runs in the sixth inning single by Patrick Mazeika to drive in Rodriguez and a Garcia sacrifice fly to cap the scoring at 4-1.

Logan Sendelbach (8-8) took the loss in his final start of the season. The right-hander allowed all four runs on six hits over six innings with two strikeouts. Witt Haggard (3-4) notched the win in relief of Columbia starter Luis Silva. Silva allowed on run over four and a third innings pitched. Haggard pitched two and two-thirds innings of scoreless relief in the victory. Jimmy Duff worked a scoreless ninth for his seventh save.

The Power closed out their 2016 road schedule with a 31-39 record.

West Virginia returns to Appalachian Power Park to begin the final homestand of the regular season. The Power host the Greenville Drive with Bret Helton Facing Logan Boyd at 7:05 P.M. on Friday night.
