WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (Aug. 15, 2017) - Winston-Salem was unable to muster any offense in Tuesday's twin bill finale against Myrtle Beach, as Casey Bloomquist spun his first career complete game en route to a 5-0 win and a doubleheader sweep at BB&T Ballpark.
After falling 3-2 in game one of Tuesday's doubleheader, the Dash (24-28, 48-74) registered just five hits against Bloomquist (4-5), who struck out four in a career-high tying seven innings of work. The right-hander, who was tagged with the loss in game two of a twin bill on May 10 at BB&T Ballpark, yielded just one walk and tossed only 86 pitches in the victory.

Bryant Flete was the only player to record a multi-hit effort for Winston-Salem, going 2-for-4 in the twin bill finale. Flete was a Midseason All-Star with Myrtle Beach this year before being traded to the White Sox organization in a deal with the Cubs for big leaguer Jose Quintana.
Meanwhile, the Pelicans (21-31, 64-58) scored all of their runs in the second inning against Winston-Salem starter Kelvis Valerio (3-4). Jesse Hodges was hit by the righty on the first pitch of the frame, and Tyler Alamo followed with a single to left. After an Eddy Martinez bunt single to third, Robert Garcia plated the game's first run on a sacrifice fly to left.
Following a Connor Myers single to load the bases, a string of three events with Roberto Caro at the plate - a wild pitch, passed ball and balk - allowed Myrtle Beach to take a 4-0 advantage. Caro ultimately drew a walk, and, after a Valerio error on a pickoff attempt to first that allowed him to scoot to third, Zack Short made it a 5-0 contest with an RBI single to left.
Despite dropping to 6-12 in doubleheader games, the Dash received a strong outing from Matt Foster, who continued his run of dominance since being promoted to Winston-Salem from Low-A Kannapolis with two shutout innings out of the bullpen. The right-hander has yet to allow an earned run in 12.2 innings pitched at the High-A level.
#YourHomeTeam continues its four-game series against Myrtle Beach at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Winston-Salem will send right-hander Alec Hansen (2-5, 3.11 ERA), who was tied for second in the Minors with 155 strikeouts after his most recent start on Friday, to the bump against righty Mike Rucker (4-3, 2.21 ERA). Pregame coverage begins at 6:45 p.m., and all of the action will be available on wsdash.com/broadcast, MiLB.tv and the TuneIn Radio App.
Wednesday marks another Pups in the Park Night. Fans can bring their furry friend to the ballpark with the purchase of a $5 pooch pass, which can be purchased by calling (336) 714-6891. All proceeds will go to an animal-related non-profit, and there will also be a pregame Puppy Parade on the field. For tickets and more information, call the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.
