(Charleston, WV - August 23, 2017)- The West Virginia Power split a double-header with the Charleston RiverDogs on Wednesday night. Two shutout games for each side saw the Power win 7-0 and lose 3-0.

In game one, Power starter Eduardo Vera stole the show. After back-to-back tough outings, the right hander began the opener retiring the first ten batters in a row. Vera hit Brandon Wagner to put the first RiverDogs batter on the base paths.
West Virginia's offense backed their starter. The first three batters in the first inning reached on extra base hits. Clark Eagan, Albert Baur, and Ryan Nagle all picked up RBI to give the Power a 3-0 lead. West Virginia scored twice in the fourth and twice in the sixth, with the help Kevin Mahala and Henrry Rosario home runs to give West Virginia a 7-0 lead.
The 23 year-old Vera took a no-hitter into the top of the seventh. Wagner and Steven Sensley were the first two outs, leaving Vera one away from a seven-inning no hitter. With one strike, Isiah Gilliam lined a fastball into right and, despite a diving effort from the right fielder Eagan, picked up the first Charleston hit. He would get as far as third before the game ended.
Vera (6-7) finished allowing two hits over seven innings, earning a victory. Alexander Vargas (1-3) suffered the loss.
In game two, the Power could not find such luck. Matt Eckelman allowed a run in the second and a run in the fourth, pitching five frames in a spot start. Angel German allowed a lone run to come across in the top of the seventh.
Charleston's Christian Morris was strong. The 23 year old went five innings, allowing just one hit and three base runners. Morris struck out five Power batters. The West Virginia squad could not figure out Matt Wivinis either as the reliever pitched two shutout frames.
The Power fell 3-0 as Eckelman (5-5) took the loss while Morris (5-2) earned the victory. Wivinis garnered his first save. The Power and RiverDogs wrap up the series on Thursday night at 7:05 P.M. It's the final Thirsty Thursday of the season. Tickets and details are available online or by calling (304) 344-BATS.
