(Salisbury, MD - September 1, 2017)-  The West Virginia Power edged the Delmarva Shorebirds 4-3 at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Friday night. Oddy Nunez pitched seven innings in the longest start of his career and the Power backed him with four runs on nine hits.

(Salisbury, MD - September 1, 2017)-  The West Virginia Power edged the Delmarva Shorebirds 4-3 at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Friday night. Oddy Nunez pitched seven innings in the longest start of his career and the Power backed him with four runs on nine hits.
The Power opened the scoring with on run on a pair of hits in the second inning. Victor Fernandez doubled and scored on a single from Raul Hernandez for a 1-0 lead. 
Nunez worked three no-hit innings from the outset and did not a hit until the 13th batter he faced. In the fourth, Cole Billingsley walked, stole second and scored on a single by Gerrion Grim to tie the game at one.
The game remained even until the top of the seventh. Delmarva starter Matthias Dietz walked Andrew Walker. After Walker stole second, Ryan Nagle singled in the go-ahead run for a 2-1 Power lead. Adrian Valerio reached on a bunt single and advanced to second on a ground out. Albert Baur doubled to right, his team-best 29th of the season, driving in Nagle and Valerio to extend the lead to 4-1.
The Shorebirds scored twice in the ninth to close the scoring and left the tying run on at first.
Nunez (5-8) allowed just the one run on three hits with a strikeout and a walk over seven complete. Dietz (3-10) allowed all four runs on eight hits over six-plus innings. Julio Eusebio pitched the final two innings for West Virginia, allowing two runs on two hits in the ninth, earning his fifth save of the season. Baur paced all players with three hits and two runs batted in. The Power first baseman carries an 11-game hitting streak into play Saturday.
West Virginia and Delmarva continue this four-game set on Saturday at 7:05 P.M. Luis Escobar will start for the Power while the Shorebirds will start Max MacNabb. Escobar enters play with 160 strikeouts, five away from setting a new single season franchise record.
