Lowell, MA - A washed out Tuesday night set up a wide open day for baseball between the IronBirds and the Lowell Spinners. Game one of the doubleheader was a 3-1 Spinner victory, and they walked off game two with a 3-2 win.
HAMMONDS HAMMERS: Matt Hammonds had a hot start for the IronBirds in game one. He allowed just two hits through the first four innings, one of which was a homerun by Devlin Grandberg to make it 1-0. In the sixth, Hammonds put runners on the corners and was pulled from the game, where the spinnners grabbed two more runs to make it 3-0.
BAZARDO WITHOUT BLUNDERS: Eduard Bazardo started game one for Lowell and was simply incredible. The righty struck out nine IronBirds and allowed just three hits in the first six innings.
ONE BACK: Aberdeen picked up a run on a ground out by Willy Yahn to score Seamus Curran in the top of the seventh inning but that would be the only run for the IronBirds. Game one ended in just an hour and forty-one minutes with a 3-1 win for Lowell
30 minutes later...
OFFENSE ARRIVES: Robbie Thorburn and Adam Hall both reached safely and scored to start game two. Thorburn scored on an error on third baseman Korby Batesole. Hall came home on a bases loaded walk by Dalton Hoiles.
TWO NOT ENOUGH: Lowell tied things up in the 5th inning with some strategic baseball. Three straight hits off of Jose Diaz including an RBI single by Jarren Duran gave the Spinners their first run. Zach Matson came in to retire the side and allowed one more run on a sacrifice fly from Trey Ganns.
THROWBACK: It all came down to the bottom of the seventh. Ryan Conroy retired the first two batters in order of the inning and then allowed the next two to reach. A single from Tyler Esplin to right field scored Delvin Granberg from second base. For the second time this season, the Spinners earned a walk off win against the IronBirds. Lowell took game two 3-2.
BIRD WATCHIN': Aberdeen has now lost four straight for the first time this season. They are 1-3 in double header games and have lost all but one game to the Lowell Spinners.
UP NEXT: Tomorrow the series concludes from Lowell with a 6:35 first pitch and Hector Guance on the mound for Aberdeen.
