Aberdeen, MD: It was all about the pitching tonight in Aberdeen. Both Matt Hammonds and Christian James were outstanding as both went deep into the ballgame, both going 6.0 IP.
CYCLONES STRIKE FIRST:The Cyclones got on the board in the second after Chase Chambers doubled and came home on a wild pitch from Matt Hammonds.
RUN BIRDS RUN:The IronBirds took the lead in the 3rd when Christian James spiked a slider in the dirt that got away from his catcher, Nick Meyer. It allowed Doran Turchin to score and also Robbie Thorburn who advanced after Meyer's throw to the plate got away from James. Doran Turchin started the rally by smacking a double into the left-center gap.
HAMMONDS DEALS AGAIN: Matt Hammonds had already recorded two starts this season in which he went 6.0 IP. Tonight was his third outing in four in which he went 6.0 innings. He gave up one run, struckout two and only gave up two hits.
ZACH ATTACK: Zach Matson came up huge for the IronBirds in the 8th. With the bases loaded, Matson struck out Jose Medina to strand the tying and go ahead runs on third and second base.
BROOKLYN COMES BACK:Diogenes Almengo came in the 9th to close the door but was not able to as the Cyclones scored two to take the lead. The go-ahead run was scored off the bat by Brian Sharp, who appeared to have bounced himself into an inning ending double play. Instead, Milton Ramos' throw got away from first baseman Seamus Curran and Chase Chambers was able to score on the throwing error.
BIRD WATCHING:Doran Turchin collected his team high seventh double in the third. It proved to be the spark the IronBirds as it would eventually spark a two run 3rd inning.
Seamus Curran once again smoked a single to give himself a hit in each of the last three ball games for the 'Birds on his rehab assignment.
UP NEXT: The IronBirds will host the Auburn Doubledays, who will be making their first trip to Ripken Stadium this season. First pitch is set for 6:05.
