High-A Affiliate
The Official Site of the Aberdeen IronBirds Aberdeen IronBirds

The IronBirds are scheduled to begin a 120-game season on May 4th, in our new Advanced-A level! We have a new league, new opponents, and way more games! 60 home games begin May 18th with a 6-game home series against the Wilmington Blue Rocks, who are now the Advanced-A Washington Nationals affiliate!

Good news! Every single season seat member who spent money on tickets for 2020 and left it with us during the longest off-season EVER has been given seats for 2021, and additional bonus tickets as a thank-you for sticking with us through some tough times! Call (410) 297-9292 to discuss further with your Account Executive.

The short answer to this question is… Maybe. Due to Governor Hogan’s Executive Orders regarding social distancing and maximum capacities for Outdoor Entertainment Venues, we spent half of February and half of March measuring every seat in Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium to find all the places that our fans can sit safely in “pods” of seats—groups where you and your family can sit at least 6 feet away from other “pods.” Seats that are not included in pods will be held shut with zip ties—please don’t break or cut our zip ties, Ferrous and RipCord are spending a lot of time making sure they are secure, and it’s hard with wings instead of hands.

There are a few special rules for this year:

i. First, we are sad to say that players and coaches will not be able to sign autographs for the foreseeable future. As a result, we are going to ask that you not bring anything to the park in bags if you don’t need to. Major League Baseball allows us to permit fans with medical bags or diaper bags, and small purses (less than 12” x 12”), but anything larger is prohibited from Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium.

ii. Second, there will be a 12-foot “buffer” around the dugout, so fans can no longer approach or touch the top of the dugout, for the safety of players and coaches.

iii. No fans or non-uniform personnel (players, coaches, and umpires) will be allowed on the field—yes, that goes for Ferrous and RipCord too, and the Flight Crew!

iv. Fans do need to wear face coverings over their mouth and nose when they are out of their seat, or when they are not eating or drinking. Don’t worry, you can still eat all your favorite concessions from our stands, including our new Jimmy’s Famous Seafood crab cake cart and our Encore Sausage Cart!

v. Fans are asked to remain socially distanced when waiting in lines for the box office, the front gates, and concessions stands; please remain respectful of your fellow fan!

vi. Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium will still accept cash, but we do request that you use your credit or debit cards as much as possible for a quick and easy experience for yourself and the fans around you—some concessions lines will now be “Credit Only” to speed up our processes.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday games are at 7:05 P.M. Saturday games are at 6:05 P.M. Sunday games are now at 2:05 P.M.

We are working on a maximum capacity, and there will be limited tickets available for people who do not already own season seat memberships. When individual tickets go on sale, they will be available at, along with season memberships, information about group outings, and our Crab Feasts! Please remember, tickets are subject to availability, and with our capacity severely restricted, buying a ticket plan is the easiest way to guarantee yourself tickets!

The IronBirds are excited to keep our tradition of serving fresh Maryland steamed crabs in the park! We plan to have multiple Sunday Crab Feasts for you and your family to enjoy at your specific table, socially distanced from other tables, and also to offer groups the opportunity to book our Picnic Pavilion in right field for groups of 50 or more to have a private party on days that are not Sundays.

For the safety of our young IronBirds fans, the Kid Zone’s iconic inflatable slide and bounce house will not be open this year, nor will the batting cage or pitching tunnel. The good news is that the Ferrous Wheel, our $1 prize wheel, will be operating on the concourse, so you can still try to win cool IronBirds swag and gifts from our partners!

a. In 2020, the City of Aberdeen upgraded the sound system throughout the park to improve our music and PA experience for fans and players alike. You can really hear the difference! Thank you to the City of Aberdeen, who own Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium.

b. Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium is proud to announce that our playing surface is now synthetic turf! This new artificial playing surface is very similar to those in MLB stadiums which have turf, such as Arizona, Houston, Miami, Toronto, and Tampa Bay! Future Orioles will have a chance to play on turf on their way to the big leagues. The Orioles will be playing 30% of their road schedule on turf this year. Additionally, this new playing surface helps to reduce or eliminate the number of pesticides and water used on the field and allows us to use the field for more community events!

c. Fans at games this year may notice the much higher quality of lighting—LED fixtures replaced our old metal halide system from 2002! These fixtures are twice as efficient as the old lights, allowing us to achieve a higher level of light with many fewer lamps, and much more precisely aimed, reducing glare to surrounding neighborhoods and I-95, and allowing the players a better playing experience. Plus, there are some fun built-in light features that allow us to twinkle the lights when the IronBirds make a fantastic play, hit a home run, or win!

d. You will notice that our gameday program has gone digital! You’ll find all the same great content and offers as in past years, but through a new digital platform that allows you to skip the program stand and head right to your seat!

a. Jimmy’s Famous Seafood is now our official Crab Cake Partner, and there will be a concourse cart where we will be serving their crab cakes, and other crab items! Also, Encore Sausage is now the official sausage of the IronBirds!

b. McClintock Distilling is a Maryland-based spirits company whose products are front and center on our new full bar on the 3rd base side of the concourse!

c. Smoothie King’s locally owned franchises will have their smoothie truck in the park this year, serving healthy refreshing blended beverages good for the whole family!

d. A new concession stand called Hot Dogs & Beer is on the 1st base side, serving hot dogs, beer, soda, water, cracker jacks, and chips—and that’s it! We hope that baseball fans visit for a quick and simple experience for ballpark staples.

We have some new faces and some old friends in our new league; here are our opponents (and their affiliates): Asheville Tourists (Houston), Bowling Green Hot Rods (Tampa Bay), Brooklyn Cyclones (New York Mets), Greensboro Grasshoppers (Pittsburgh), Greenville Drive (Boston), Hickory Crawdads (Texas), Hudson Valley Renegades (New York Yankees), Jersey Shore BlueClaws (Philadelphia), Rome Braves (Atlanta), Wilmington Blue Rocks (Washington), and Winston Salem Dash (Chicago White Sox)
