The Baysox broke out of their recent struggles with a 20-hit onslaught in a 12-4 win in their series opener in Akron on Monday night. The win moves Bowie within 3.5 games of Akron for the final playoff spot in the Eastern league's Western Division.
After a long first inning in which each starter registered more than 30-pitches thrown, the Baysox bats went to work in the third inning down 3-2. With a run in to tie it and runners at second and third base, SS Garabez Rosa lined a 2-run single to left field to give the Baysox a 5-3 lead.
Bowie blew the game open in the fourth inning off of RubberDucks reliever Adam Miller. The Baysox got a one-out home run from DH Niuman Romero to start the rally. The next four Baysox hitters would single and Bowie was on their way with a five-run inning to grab a 10-3 lead.
Starter Anthony Vasquez battled back after allowing three runs in a 37-pitch first inning to work six innings for the win (6-6). Reliever Marcel Prado earned his fourth save with three shutout innings of work.
The Baysox had five players register three hits or more in the game. David Adams had a four-hit night. With the win the Baysox also gained a game on Erie who lost 4-3 in Altoona. Bowie is two games up on the SeaWolves.
