TRENTON, N.J.- A seven-run second for Trenton proved to be too much to overcome as the Bowie Baysox (31-31) dropped their fourth straight with a 7-3 loss to the Thunder (39-21) on Saturday night at ARM & HAMMER Park in Trenton.
This marks the first time that Bowie has dropped four straight since losing seven in a row to end the 2016 campaign.
In the afore-mentioned seven-run second, Miguel Andujar delivered the big blow with a three-run blast off of Baysox starter Matthew Grimes . Billy Fleming and Jorge Saez also plated runs with RBI doubles in the frame for Trenton.
A solo shot from Chris O'Brien in the third put the Baysox on the board and cut the lead to 7-1. The home run was O'Brien's first of the season.
Grimes (2-6) allowed the seven runs on eight hits to go along with two walks and a strikeout in 1.1 IP.
Trenton starter LHP Nestor Cortes (4-0) surrendered the one run on four hits while fanning four over five innings of work.
Adam Brett Walker's two-out, two-run double in the eighth brought the Baysox within 7-3.
Walker (2-4, 2 2B, 2 RBI) and Cedric Mullins (2-4, BB) each recorded a multi-hit game for the Baysox. Walker was making his season debut with Bowie.
RHP Jefri Hernandez (3.2 IP, 3 H, BB, K) and RHP Jason Garcia (3.0 IP, 3 H, 2 K) had scoreless outings in relief for manager Gary Kendall's squad.
The 3.2 IP marked the longest outing for Hernandez since he also went 3.2 on 8/6/15 with Frisco (AA).
The series wraps up on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. as RHP Brandon Barker (3-1, 4.04) will be on the bump for Bowie against Trenton LHP Josh Rogers (2-0, 4.00).
