Ponies Drop Rubber Game to Yard Goats in Hartford

Yard Goats Hit a Pair Of Two-Run Homers

HARTFORD, CT- The Binghamton Rumble Ponies lost to the Hartford Yard Goats 5-2 Sunday evening at Dunkin' Donuts Park.

The Rumble Ponies (24-29, 59-58) scored first on a Patrick Mazeika solo home run to right in the top of the fourth. It was his 14th homer of the season and his 62nd RBI.

The Yard Goats (22-26, 59-57) took the lead in the bottom of the fifth as Carlos Herrera hit his first home run of the season, a two-run blast to right. Vance Vizcaino tacked on another run with an RBI single.

Brian Serven made it 5-1 with a two-run home run in the sixth. The Rumble Ponies plated one more run in the eighth on a Luis Carpio pinch-hit RBI single. The tying run came to the plate in the rally, but two runners were left aboard as David Thompson flew out.

RHP Heath Holder (7-4) earned the win as he allowed one run on two hits and struck out six over six innings. Righty Tony Dibrell (0-5) suffered the loss as he gave up five runs on seven hits over 5.1 innings of work. Scott Griggs recorded his 11th save of the year with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

The Rumble Ponies return to action Tuesday as they begin a four-game series with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats with a doubleheader. The first game gets underway at 5:35 PM on NewsRadio 1290 AM WNBF and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies channel on TuneIn. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pregame show starts at 5:20 PM.

POSTGAME NOTES: After being outhit 25-12 over the first two games of the series, the Yard Goats outhit the Ponies 9-4… Mazeika tallied two of Binghamton's four hits as he went 2-3 with a solo homer and a walk… His 62 RBI are third-most in the Eastern League.
