Quick Start Leads Thunder to Victory over Ponies

Trenton Score Five Runs Over First Two Innings

Binghamton, NY - The Trenton Thunder (35-25) scored five runs over the first two innings and cruised to a 7-2 win over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies on Wednesday evening at NYSEG Stadium. Thunder starter Albert Abreu (3-5) allowed only two hits and two runs (one earned) over six innings with one walk and eight strikeouts getting the win. Mickey Jannis suffered his first loss of the year allowing six runs over five and a third innings. 

Trenton scored three in the first via an RBI single from Chris Gittens and a two-run double from Mandy Alvarez. Alvarez finished 3-4 in the game and now has 5 RBI over the first two games of the series. Ben Ruta also added a two-run double in the second to make it 5-0 after two innings. 

The Rumble Ponies (33-26) only runs came in the fourth as they loaded the bases and Braxton Lee grounded into a fielder's choice for the Ponies first run. Then with the next batter Mike Paez at the plate, Abreu made an errant pickoff throw to first allowing Patrick Mazeika to score from third.

The two teams will play the rubber game of the series Thursday evening at NYSEG Stadium with first pitch at 6:35PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF and on the Binghamton Rumble Ponies channel on TuneIn. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame show begins at 6:20PM. 

POSTGAME NOTES: The two teams are now 5-5 against each other in their first ten meetings of the year.
