BOWIE, MD – The Bowie Baysox and Baltimore Orioles announced today the return of KYLE MOORE as Bowie’s manager, as well as the full coaching staff to assist him in 2023.
Moore will be aided by FORREST HERMANN and SHERMAN JOHNSON as Pitching and Hitting Coaches, respectively. TIM DeJOHN returns to the Baysox to continue as the Fundamentals Coach, and RYAN GOLL will serve as the club’s Development Coach.
Moore embarks on his second season as the skipper at Prince George’s Stadium, and his 14th overall season within the Orioles organization. Under Moore’s guidance, the Baysox compiled the best second half record in their division, going 41-28 in the back end of the year. With a career managerial record of 254-216 (.540) over four total seasons, Moore has already guided some of the best teams within the Baltimore farm. He managed Class-A Delmarva during the 2019 season, leading MiLB.com’s Team of the Year to a minor league-best 90 wins, setting a Delmarva franchise record, and being named the South Atlantic Manager of the Year. Moore played two seasons in the Orioles minor leagues with Aberdeen, Delmarva, and Frederick, and played collegiately at the University of Alabama. He currently resides in Sarasota with his wife Whitney and daughters Madilyn and Cameron.
“I am so excited to get back to Bowie this season, getting to work with a youthful, talented team and a staff that is just as thrilling; I know both will present quite the rewarding challenge,” Moore said. “And our family, Whitney, our two girls, and I are looking forward to another adventure this summer.”
Pitching Coach Forrest Herrmann makes the jump to Double-A for his second season in the organization, having most recently served in the same role with Aberdeen, while Sherman Johnson makes his coaching debut as Bowie’s Hitting Coach. A former infielder, Johnson appeared in 10 games for the Los Angeles Angels in 2018 and played in parts of nine minor league seasons in the Angels, Cincinnati Reds, and Minnesota Twins organizations, as well as a stint with the independent league Kane County Cougars in 2022. He played two seasons at Florida State University. Tim DeJohn returns for his second season as Fundamentals Coach with the Baysox. In addition to his role with Bowie, DeJohn has also been promoted to Minor League Infield Coordinator for all affiliate levels. Goll takes on his role of Development Coach after serving in the same capacity with Aberdeen.
“We are thrilled that Kyle Moore will lead the Baysox again this year,” said Greg Baroni, CEO and Managing General Partner, Attain Sports and Entertainment. “He is an impressive, values-driven leader both on and off the field, and bringing a deep commitment to the players, the fans, and the broader community. With Kyle at the helm, we’re looking forward to a great season—including a championship!”
