AKRON, OH - The Chesapeake Baysox, Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, fell 5-1 to the Akron RubberDucks, Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians, on Saturday night at Canal Park.

Right-hander Alex Pham made his first start for Chesapeake since late April after being activated off the injured list earlier this week. Pham struck out three of the first four hitters he faced but allowed a run on a pair of hits in the second to give Akron a 1-0 lead.

The Baysox managed just four hits on Saturday. Chesapeake led off the fourth inning with back-to-back singles from Max Wagner and Aron Estrada, before Adam Retzbach drove in the game’s tying run on a sacrifice fly. That was the only run from the Baysox against RubberDucks righty Yorman Gomez (W, 3-0), who went six frames and struck out 10 for Akron.

The score did not stay level for long. Back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the fourth restored the RubberDucks lead to 2-1. Pham (L, 0-2) went four innings in his first start back, striking out four and throwing 54 pitches.

Right-hander Levi Wells took over on the mound for the Baysox in the fifth. Wells allowed three runs in his three innings of work – including an unearned run in the fifth and a two-run double in the sixth but tallied a career-high eight strikeouts across his three frames, including striking out the side in a scoreless seventh.

Chesapeake concludes its six-game series in Akron on Sunday, with RHP Juaron Watts-Brown (2-3, 4.04 ERA) set to get the ball for the Baysox against Right-hander Dylan DeLucia (5-3, 2.44 ERA) for the RubberDucks. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. ET from Canal Park.

The next Baysox homestand is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, August 12 at 6:35 p.m. against the Erie SeaWolves, the Double-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, from Prince George's Stadium.
