Bowie, MD (February 12, 2026) – Rosters for the 2026 World Baseball Classic were announced last Friday. As spring training officially gets underway this week, 16 former Baysox are set to represent up to 11 different countries for the latest iteration of baseball’s biggest global event, set to begin on Thursday, March 5.
Gunnar Henderson is the lone Baysox alumnus representing the United States for 2026. Henderson joined the Baysox in September of 2021 for five regular season games in addition to the 2021 Double-A Northeast Finals between Bowie and the Akron RubberDucks. Henderson broke camp in 2022 with the Baysox, hitting .312 with eight home runs in 47 games before continuing to Triple-A in his quick surge up the minor league ranks. Henderson was named Baseball America’s Minor League Player of the Year in 2022.
Henderson became the first ever Baysox alum to be named American League Rookie of the Year, following his debut major league season with the Baltimore Orioles in 2023. In 2024, He finished fourth in American League MVP voting, after hitting 37 home runs with the Orioles.
Canada leads the way with three former Baysox named to its roster -- left-handed pitcher Micah Ashman, Outfielder Tyler O’Neill, and Infielder Adam Hall. Ashman and O’Neill each played for the Baysox this past season. O’Neill spent two major league rehab assignments with the Baysox in 2025. He represented Canada in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, going 8-for-13 at the plate in four contests. Ashman joined the Orioles organization in July after being acquired from the Tigers for Charlie Morton. Ashman made 13 appearances for the Baysox to close out 2025, posting a 4.50 ERA. Ashman was born and raised in Utah, but his mother is from British Columbia. Hall played for the Baysox during the 2022 season. More recently, Hall has enjoyed stints in the Brewers organization and has also played in Canada for the Winnipeg Goldeyes of the American Association. Hall grew up in Bermuda and moved to Ontario as a teenager to pursue his passion for baseball.
Former Baysox Joey Ortiz and Ramón Urías are set to help make up the infield for Mexico. Ortiz, now a member of the Milwaukee Brewers, spent the majority of 2021 and 2022 with the Baysox. While his debut season in Double-A was hampered by injury, Ortiz was named an Orioles Organizational All-Star in 2022, hitting .269 with 28 doubles and 15 home runs in 111 games with Bowie. Ortiz, born in California, has Mexican heritage through his parents. Urías’s lone stint with the Baysox came on a rehab assignment back in 2022.
Puerto Rico and Czechia also each named a pair of former Baysox to their rosters. A pair of 2022 Baysox in right-handed pitcher Rico Garcia and infielder Darrell Hernaiz are slated to represent Puerto Rico, while infielder Terrin Vavra and catcher Martin Cervenka will play for Czechia. Vavra was an Orioles organizational All-Star while spending 2021 with the Baysox and appeared with Chesapeake just this past season. Vavra’s great-grandfather is from Czechia. Cervenka played 144 games for the Baysox between 2018 and 2019, including hitting 15 homers in his debut season with Bowie.
Right-hander Ryan Long has spent time in each of the past three seasons with the Baysox and will represent Great Britain for the second time in the World Baseball Classic. Long pitched twice in the 2023 edition of the tournament, allowing one run in four innings of work, which included a strikeout of three-time American League MVP Mike Trout.

Long’s mother and maternal grandparents were born in England. His mom is a United Kingdom citizen.
“It (the 2023 World Baseball Classic) was probably the best baseball experience I’ve had up to this point,” said Long, in an interview with the Baysox Radio Network in 2024. ”The baseball aspect of it was amazing, but I think even more so being on a team with a bunch of guys who share the same heritage, who just really want to go out and play for the country, play for each other, and that was a really special team to be a part of.”
Long has pitched to a 4.94 ERA across 62 appearances as both a starter and reliever in his Baysox career.
Outfielder Enrique Bradfield, Jr. is slated to represent Panama. A member of the Baysox each of the past two seasons, Bradfield was born in Florida, and both of his parents are Panamanian. Bradfield has represented Panama at the youth level in the past.
