The Columbus Clippers family was very saddened to hear of the untimely passing of Andy Marte. The 33-year-old was killed in a single car accident in the Dominican Republic early Sunday morning. In 2009 Marte played 82 games for Columbus, hitting .327 with 24 2Bs 18 HRs and 66 RBIs.

He had played the past two seasons in Korea and was playing winter ball in the Dominican Republic. Andy was one of the nicest individuals to put on a baseball uniform, and he will be missed.

The baseball world also mourns the loss of Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura, who was also killed in a separate car accident in the Dominican Republic Sunday. Ventura was 25 years old.
