ABOUT THE WOOD DUCKS
The Wood Ducks enter their fifth season as the Class-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers and second in the Low-A East. The Wood Ducks play all home games at Grainger Stadium in Kinston, North Carolina.
Before moving to North Carolina, the Rangers' California League affiliate had been located in Adelanto, CA as the High Desert Mavericks for the 2015 and 2016 seasons. Previously to the Mavericks, the Rangers were in the Carolina League as the Myrtle Beach Pelicans in Myrtle Beach, SC from 2011-2014. Prior to that time, Texas had not been affiliated with the Carolina League since having a farm club in Salem, VA in 1986.
Texas had its High-A club in the Florida State League at Port Charlotte from 1987-2002 and in the California League at Stockton in 2003-04 and at Bakersfield from 2005-10.
2017 marked the return of professional baseball in Kinston for the first time since 2011. A multi-year renovation project is planned for Grainger Stadium - the first of which completed this offseason as the "Mother Earth Pavilion," a new hospitality structure down the right field line.
That's not all that came to Grainger Stadium in 2017. On the field, the Wood Ducks claimed the second-half title of the league and won a weather-shortened south division playoff series to be crowned "Co-champs" of the season.
